The Block Triple Threat Comes To An End

April 29, 2015 by Fi

It’s been almost three months and the tenth season of The Block is coming to an end.

We’ve all lived the pain and anguish the couples have gone through from sick tradies, to cheating scandals and then the usual, lack of sleep. Emotions seemed to have run unusually high in this series and the tension seemed to have lasted a little longer with some contestants.

Everyone has their favourites and I have to say Jess and Ayden are mine. As much as an audience loves a bit of controversy and drama I must admit that this season I enjoyed sitting and watching a bit of comedy. Perhaps life has been a little more chaotic than usual so to sit and watch Ayden’s antics and his constant smile on his face, was a pleasant nightly escape from reality. At times I would think that if he was my husband I’d whack him, but Jess knew just the right way to handle him and keep him under control – a bit like an out of control toddler. He really was a loveable ratbag sometimes.

Their apartment came together beautifully and it was lovely to see Jess finally get some confidence in what she was presenting.  I think the $20,000 tiling in the bathroom was a huge mistake and that totally destroyed her confidence (and budget!). It was wonderful to see them finally bring it all home with their gorgeous terrace and sense was finally made of their apartment.

My second favourite couple and apartment would be Josh and Charlotte. They were just such a gorgeous couple. Not heavy on politics, just there to get the job done – and that they did! I think their decision to put money into real floorboards was a fantastic idea, something expected in upmarket South Yarra. A very mature couple with a sophisticated style and they should be very proud of what they have created.

Dea and Daz’s apartment is probably my next favourite. The kitchen goal posts, I must admit, totally destroy that zone. I do honestly feel that they will take out the $100,000 as the courtyard is an area that is not common for this style of apartment in South Yarra. I know that would be a major draw card if I was to buy an apartment.

Finally, Tim and Anastasia. I must admit this is a couple I never quite connected with. Throughout the series I kept wishing Ebony and Luke had got through the eliminations. They were entertaining and good humoured people and I think they would have made an amazing apartment. I can’t help but think Dea’s presence intimidated Anastasia from the start and unfortunately I think that was the beginning of the couple’s downward spiral. Tim seemed good humoured and I must admit he was very supportive of Anastasia which was lovely to watch. Perhaps The Block was just too big a project for them. I am pleased to say it appears from last night’s show that their apartment may have finally come together.

You can’t help but hope that every single team is rewarded at auction for all of their unbelievably hard work and in a statement today, it looks just that! Channel 9 has stated that the results from last night’s auctions will have the four teams taking home the largest prize money ever won on a TV program. What fantastic news! I know where I’ll be at 7.30 tonight!

6 Tips to Feng Shui Your House

April 21, 2015 by Fi

A couple of years ago I invited a few real estate agents to come through my property to value it. One of the agents was high profile in our area and was quite in touch with the ever growing population of Chinese investors.

When she came through she commented on different aspects of our home that would appeal to a potential Asian buyer such as the positioning of water features and fountains, a lot of red decor and of course that our house number is number 8. I found this quite fascinating and took note as Chinese buyers were certainly pushing the prices up on surrounding properties. [Read more…]

From Princess to Tween – A Bedroom Makeover

March 27, 2015 by Fi

I still remember when I designed my little girl’s bedroom all those years ago. The brief was castles and princesses. An easy theme and not unexpected. We painted one wall green and I stuck a set of a princess, horses and castle decals on it.  There was colour co-ordinated bunting on the wall and a gorgeous white timber bed with matching bookcase and drawers and a beautiful quilt cover completing the princess theme.

It was perfect for those few years …. and then she grew. Posters of 1 Direction started appearing and the items that I so carefully selected were disappearing one by one. It’s time for a change.

Will The Block Return to Sydney?

March 2, 2015 by Fi

If you watch social media you will notice that there is always a great deal of people that are very vocal that they think The Block should once again come back to Sydney;  some even go so far to say they refuse to watch it anymore as Melbourne is clearly favoured. [Read more…]

7 Tips for Low Ceilings

February 19, 2015 by Fi

ceiling low kitchen

The second home my husband and I purchased 8 years ago was a 1950’s red brick with a 1980’s extension. Typical of the 80’s era, the back half of our house had ceilings considerably lower than the front half (much to my amateur-design amazement!). Eight years on I have realised that this is not as uncommon as it might sound. [Read more…]

Life Instyle Is Here!

Life Instyle logo

I have to admit I wait with bated breath for February and August to tick around each year just so I can attend Life InStyle. It is the most wonderful event which runs at the same time as the Home and Giving Fair and Reed Gift Fair meaning if you travel interstate to attend, you can see a few trade fairs in one trip. Selling Your Home? 8 Tips You Need to Know

January 10, 2015 by Fi

When it’s your family home you’re selling it’s very hard to be objective. To ensure you have a realistic vision for what your home is worth you have to take off those rose-coloured glasses and unhook the heartstrings. Grandma’s crocheted blanket is not going to win points with potential buyers.

Here are some easy things you can do to pull your house out of the last century. [Read more…]
